This Classic Stovetop Popcorn is very simple to make and sure is nutritious. Great for movie night at home! Not to mention that it is very cheap!

Classic Stovetop Popcorn is one of the healthiest snacks our family loves! Our every weekend movie night is not complete with this warm and fresh popcorn with a hint of salt with fresh drink on the side.

After trying to cook popcorn kernels over the stovetop, I never went back to doing microwave popcorn anymore.

WAY BETTER THAN MICROWAVE POPCORN

First of all, those microwave popcorn has unnecessary preservative ingredients to make popcorn. Sure, microwave popcorn is way easier to make, with no effort at all. Just put it in the microwave, set the time, and voila! Your popcorn is ready. But I will not compromise my family’s health, if I know there is a better way, a healthier better way.

KEY FOR A GOOD STOVETOP POPCORN

A few things I keep in mind when making popcorn over stovetop:

Use a good fat. That won’t easily get burned and can stand a good heat, like for frying. In this recipe, I use extra virgin olive oil. But you can also use other oils such as coconut oil, avocado oil, regular cooking oil, and the likes. Do not use butter, as it will get burned right before your popcorn is ready. I learned that from experience.

Use a pot with a lid. That has a bottom that distributes the heat evenly.

ORGANIC POPCORN KERNELS ARE BEST

Any popcorn kernels are good. I usually go with organic ones, white or yellow popcorn kernels.

And lastly, don’t forget your 2 potholders or oven mitts to use to shake the pot.

We like our popcorn plain with some salt. But if you feel a little classy, you can add melted butter over cooked popcorn, give it a little stir and there’s your buttered popcorn.

Every movie night at home deserves this yummy and delicious snack.

Here’s how to make Popcorn.

Ingredients:

3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
 ½ cup popcorn kernels
 Salt, to taste
 2 tbsp butter, melted (Optional)

Directions:

1

In a large pot with lid, over medium heat, add the oil and 2 to 3 pieces of popcorn kernels. Cover and wait for it to pop.

2

Once all 3 popcorn kernels popped, lower the heat and remove the popped popcorn.

3

Add the rest of the popcorn kernels. Cover and give the pot a good shake. So the kernels get covered evenly with the oil. Increase the heat back to medium heat.

4

Wait for the kernels to start popping. Shake the pot every now and then.

5

When the popping starts to slow down to almost gone, turn off the heat and leave the pot covered for a minute. To give time to other kernels that didn’t pop.

6

Open the lid, slowly add the melted butter and sprinkle with salt, give a little stir.
